GOD’S WORD IS THE STANDARD, NOT OUR FEELINGS

đź“– SCRIPTURE READING
“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it…” — Genesis 2:16–17
“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” — Proverbs 14:12
🕊️ MEDITATION
There are moments when God has already spoken, yet we still look for another opinion.
God says “No,” but our feelings say, “Maybe.”
God says “Don’t go,” but our desires say, “Just try it.”
God says “Leave it,” but our reasoning says, “I can handle it.” God says “Wait,” but impatience says, “Do it now.”
This is where many compromises begin.
The problem is not always that we do not know God’s will. Sometimes we know what God said, but we permit what He forbade because we want something different.
🌳 THE GARDEN OF EDEN
In the Garden of Eden, God gave Adam a clear instruction.
There were many trees from which Adam could eat freely, but there was one boundary:
Do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God did not leave Adam confused.
The instruction was clear. But when the serpent approached Eve, the first thing he did was challenge God’s Word.
“Yea, hath God said…?” — Genesis 3:1
Notice what happened, The enemy did not immediately tell Eve to rebel.
He first made her question what God had said.
Then he redirected her attention toward what was forbidden.
đź“– Genesis 3:6 tells us:
“And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes…”
What God had forbidden suddenly looked attractive. This is how compromise works.
It makes what God forbade look desirable and makes obedience look restrictive.
⚠️ THE DANGER OF FOLLOWING FEELINGS
Your feelings are real, but they are not always reliable. You can feel something strongly and still be wrong. You can desire something sincerely and still be outside God’s will.
You can believe something is harmless and still be walking into danger.
That is why God’s Word must remain the standard.
đź“– Jeremiah 17:9 says:
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
God’s Word provides a standard higher than our emotions, preferences, experiences, and opinions.
Don’t use your feelings to interpret God’s Word. Use God’s Word to govern your feelings.
One of the most dangerous questions a believer can ask is: “How close can I get to what God forbade without actually doing wrong?”
That question is already moving toward compromise.
The better question is:
“How far can I move away from anything that could make me disobey God?”
Joseph understood this. When Potiphar’s wife attempted to draw him into sexual sin, Joseph did not negotiate with temptation.
He ran.
đź“– Genesis 39:12
“And he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.”
Joseph understood something: Some temptations should not be managed; they should be escaped.
📌 KINGDOM TRUTHS
1. God’s Word Must Govern Your Decisions
📖 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” — Psalm 119:105
When God’s Word is clear, you don’t need public opinion to validate obedience.
2. What Looks Right May Still Be Wrong
đź“– “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man…” — Proverbs 14:12
Something can feel right and still lead you away from God.
3. Obedience Is Better Than Negotiation
đź“– “To obey is better than sacrifice…” — 1 Samuel 15:22
God is not looking for creative ways to justify disobedience. He desires obedience.
🙏 PRAYER
Heavenly Father, give me a heart that honours Your Word above my feelings, desires, opinions, and circumstances.
Where You have said no, give me the grace to accept Your no.
Where You have instructed me to leave something, give me courage to leave it.
Deliver me from the deception of calling wrong right because I desire it.
Give me spiritual discernment to recognize temptation and wisdom to respond correctly. Let Your Word govern my thoughts, choices, relationships, and actions. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
📣 DECLARATIONS
God’s Word is my standard.
I will not allow my feelings to override God’s instructions.
I have grace to obey God completely.
I will not call wrong right because I desire it.
My heart will submit to God’s Word.
I will recognize and reject compromise.
I choose obedience over temporary pleasure.
📌 ACTION POINT FOR TODAY
Ask yourself honestly:
“What has God already told me that I am still permitting?” Don’t make excuses. Don’t blame another person. Don’t explain it away.
Write it down.
Then make one decision today to bring that area back under the authority of God’s Word.
If it is a habit—begin to remove it. If it is an unhealthy influence—establish distance.
If it is an ungodly relationship—establish appropriate boundaries. If it is an attitude—repent and surrender it to God. If it is a repeated temptation—change the environment that feeds it. Don’t merely acknowledge God’s instruction. Obey it.
🌟 SPECIAL INSIGHT
The enemy’s first strategy in Eden was not simply: “Disobey God.” It was: “Question what God said.” Once God’s Word becomes negotiable, obedience becomes optional.
That is why we must settle this principle in our hearts: If God has spoken clearly through His Word, I don’t need to negotiate with it.
God’s commands are not designed to deprive you of life. They are designed to protect the life He has given you. Sometimes God’s “No” is protection. Sometimes His “Wait” is preparation. Sometimes His “Leave” is deliverance. Sometimes His “Don’t touch it” is preservation. Never interpret God’s boundary as God’s rejection of you.
🔥 PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I declare over your life in the mighty name of Jesus Christ:
May God sharpen your spiritual discernment and give you grace to recognize every situation that seeks to pull you away from His will.
Every voice that contradicts God’s Word shall lose its influence over your decisions.
May you receive courage to obey even when obedience is uncomfortable.
