🕊️ MEDITATION
One of the greatest dimensions of the freedom Christ gives is freedom from the dominion of sin.
Jesus did not come only to forgive what you have done; He came to break the power that kept you doing what displeases God. Salvation is not merely the cancellation of your past—it is the beginning of a new life. Before Christ, sin could operate as a master. A person could sincerely desire to change and yet repeatedly find himself returning to the same patterns. But when Christ comes into a person’s life, the believer receives a new position and a new power.
Romans 6:14 says: “For sin shall not have dominion over you.” Notice the language: “shall not have dominion.” Sin may still present temptation, but it no longer has the legal right to rule the believer who is walking in Christ. This does not mean that a Christian will never face temptation or never make a mistake. Scripture says: 1 John 2:1 — “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.” The difference is that sin is no longer supposed to be your master.
Freedom means you can say NO.
Before salvation, many things may have controlled a person’s choices. Anger, lust, bitterness, greed, unforgiveness, pride, addiction, fear, and other sinful patterns can become deeply rooted. But grace does not merely forgive sin; grace teaches us to reject ungodliness.
Titus 2:11–12 says: “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly…” Grace gives you the ability to live differently.
Your old nature does not have the final word.
Romans 6:6 teaches that our “old man” was crucified with Christ. This means the person you were before Christ does not have to determine the person you become in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Your history may explain where you came from, but it does not have to dictate where you are going. You are not called to continually introduce yourself by your past when God has given you a new identity in Christ.
Freedom requires yielding yourself to God.
Romans 6 does not only tell us what we are free from; it tells us what we are now free to do.
Romans 6:13 says: “…yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.” You cannot experience the fullness of spiritual freedom while continually presenting yourself to the things Christ died to deliver you from. Freedom from sin must be followed by surrender to God. You were not freed from one master so that you could become your own master. You were freed so that you could belong completely to Christ.
KINGDOM TRUTHS ABOUT FREEDOM FROM SIN
1. SIN MUST NOT BE YOUR MASTER
Romans 6:14
“For sin shall not have dominion over you…”
Sin may knock, but you do not have to open the door.
2. CHRIST HAS GIVEN YOU A NEW IDENTITY
2 Corinthians 5:17 “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature…”
You are not merely an improved version of your former self. In Christ, you have entered a new spiritual reality.
3. GRACE EMPOWERS RIGHTEOUS LIVING
Titus 2:11–12
The grace of God teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly lusts and to live soberly, righteously, and godly.
Grace is not permission to continue in sin.
4. YOU MUST PRESENT YOURSELF TO GOD
Romans 6:13 “…yield yourselves unto God… and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.”
Freedom becomes fruitful when your life is surrendered to God.
5. THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS YOU WALK IN FREEDOM
Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”God has not left you to fight the flesh by human strength alone.
🔎 REFLECTION QUESTIONS
Is there any sinful pattern I have accepted as though it has permanent authority over me?
Am I seeing myself according to my past or according to my identity in Christ?
What areas of my life do I need to surrender more completely to God?
Am I depending on the Holy Spirit or merely trying to overcome sin through human strength?
What practical step can I take today to walk in greater obedience?
PRAYER
Father, thank You for the freedom You have given me through Jesus Christ.
Thank You because sin shall not have dominion over me.
I receive the truth that I am no longer a slave to my former life.
Help me to walk in the reality of my new identity in Christ.
Give me strength to say no to every temptation and yes to righteousness
