“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…” — Isaiah 41:10
🕊️ MEDITATION
Fear is one of the strongest emotions a person can experience, It can make you imagine problems that have not happened, It can make a small challenge look like an impossible mountain, It can make you question your ability, It can make you withdraw from people, It can make you lose confidence in tomorrow. And sometimes, when fear continues for a long time, it can contribute to emotional exhaustion, hopelessness, and deep discouragement.
But today, God’s Word reminds us of something powerful: Fear does not come from God as your master.
Paul told Timothy: “God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Notice that God gives: Power, Love, A sound mind. God does not want fear to become the governing force behind your decisions.
Sometimes, Christians feel guilty because they experience fear. They think: “If I were really a person of faith, I wouldn’t be afraid.” But Scripture shows us that faithful people experienced fear. David experienced fear, Elijah became deeply discouraged, Jeremiah experienced profound emotional distress, The disciples became afraid during the storm, The issue is not whether you ever feel fear, The issue is what you do when fear comes. You can feel afraid and still pray. You can feel afraid and still trust God. You can feel afraid and still seek help.
You can feel afraid and still take the next step.
Courage is not the absence of fear. It is refusing to allow fear to become your master.
God says:
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee.” — Isaiah 41:10
Notice that God did not say:
“There will never be anything frightening.”
He said: “I am with thee.” The greatest promise is not the absence of difficulty. It is the presence of God in the middle of difficulty.
When you know that you are not alone, you can face things differently. The storm may still exist.
The diagnosis may still require attention.
The financial challenge may still be real.
The difficult season may still be difficult.
But you don’t face it alone.
PETER AND THE STORM
When the disciples were caught in a storm, Jesus came walking on the water. Peter became afraid when he focused on the wind and waves. His attention shifted from Jesus to the storm. This is an important spiritual lesson. What you constantly focus on can determine what dominates your emotions. If you constantly feed your mind with frightening possibilities, fear can become louder. But when you deliberately bring your thoughts back to God’s character and promises, you create space for faith. This doesn’t mean ignoring reality, It means refusing to let fear become the only reality you see.
The Bible does not tell us to pretend emotional struggles don’t exist, It repeatedly teaches us to bring our thoughts, burdens, and emotions before God. Philippians 4:6–7 tells us to bring our anxieties to God in prayer and thanksgiving, and promises God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds. Sometimes freedom begins with simply being honest: “Lord, I am afraid.” “Lord, I am tired.” “Lord, I don’t understand what is happening.” “Lord, I need help.” God is not intimidated by your honesty.
TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME
Fear often asks: “What will happen next year?”
Depression may say: “Nothing will ever change.”
But God gives you grace for today.
Jesus said: “Take therefore no thought for the morrow…” — Matthew 6:34
This does not mean we should ignore tomorrow or refuse to plan. It means we should not allow tomorrow’s uncertainties to steal today’s strength. You only need today’s grace for today’s journey.
