“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. ”Proverbs 9:10
️ MEDITATION
Many people use the words wisdom and understanding interchangeably, but in Scripture they are distinct gifts that work together.
Understanding is the ability to perceive the meaning of a matter—it answers the question, “What does this mean?”
Wisdom is the ability to correctly apply that understanding—it answers the question, “What should I do?”
Knowledge tells you the facts. Understanding reveals their meaning. Wisdom shows you how to apply them.
Without understanding, knowledge can be confusing. Without wisdom, understanding can remain unused. God desires that His children possess both.
Consider Solomon. When God asked him what he desired, Solomon did not ask for riches, long life, or victory over his enemies. Instead, he asked for an understanding heart so he could judge God’s people wisely.
 Scripture Guidance:
“Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people.” 1 Kings 3:9
Because Solomon valued understanding, God also gave him extraordinary wisdom.
 Scripture Guidance:
“And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much.” 1 Kings 4:29
Think about Daniel. Even in a foreign land, God gave him wisdom and understanding beyond that of the wise men of Babylon.
He understood dreams, visions, and difficult matters because God’s Spirit rested upon him.
 Scripture Guidance:
“God gave them knowledge and skill… and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.” — Daniel 1:17
Above all, consider Jesus Christ. Even as a boy, He astonished the teachers in the temple because of His understanding and His answers.
 Scripture Guidance:
“All that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.” Luke 2:47
This is the mystery: Wisdom is not merely intelligence; it is the ability to live according to God’s perspective.
Many educated people lack wisdom because wisdom begins with reverence for God.
The fear of the Lord opens the door to true wisdom and understanding.
KINGDOM TRUTHS ABOUT WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING
1. Wisdom Begins with the Fear of the Lord: Reverence for God is the foundation of true wisdom.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Proverbs 9:10
2. Understanding Brings Clarity: God gives understanding to those who seek Him sincerely.
“Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” 2 Timothy 2:7
3. Wisdom Directs Your Steps: Wisdom helps you make decisions that honor God.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart… and he shall direct thy paths.” — Proverbs 3:5–6
